"In the same manner that I believe in the magical power of words in literature, I believe in the enchanting spell of familiar visual signs so that whenever they appear in a picture, despite their simplicity, have a charm of their own. Of course, I revel in seeing a viewer pauses in front of a work of mine but I honestly prefer to tempt this feeling with known signs and symbols rather than strange and unfamiliar ones that astound and dumbfound. I am, therefore, rather sensitive and responsive to things, events, stories that surround us and their memories. Lines and their repetition in my works are my therapy. I love to move, so I move around in my paintings with lines. They have a beginning, end and they continue by their reappearance.
Repetitive elements are like narrative recitals or humming a mantra. Living in Iran, our eyes pursue these mantras in the ornamental design of carpets, architecture and paintings. These are the elements that can build up an imaginary space in which I could live and play for hours as a child and even now. Layering and hiding behind suggestions of different concepts and leaving some transparency in between for interpretation, is also in my culture, as seen in literature, poetry and everyday life so for this reason it feels so natural to me to depict with equivocation. I begin my work with an idea of an event, a picture, a sentence or a random installation in nature and occasionally, in the course of completing, the idea undergoes change. I consider a work done and finished only if whenever I happen to look at it I laugh unconsciously like the joy of a child with the new tricks and games he has recently learned."

Nathalie Detsch Southworth - "My initial impulse to paint came after an extended 7 month trip through the African continent in 1995. The experience of colours, symbols, mysticism and closeness of life and death stayed with me after that trip. I started studying cultural anthropology at the University of Zurich but then decided to go back to my childhood love of painting and creating and went to art school.
My interest in cultures, religions and travelling remained though and lives within my paintings. For years one of my main themes was ancient Mesopotamia. Recently I have discovered the rich treasures of Ancient Persia and have been reading Persian poetry: Rumi...music we are.

"I am an experimental realistic artist. I was born in Iran and started my artistic path by attending to drawing and painting courses there, since I was a child. By the time, I tried to work in different techniques and improve my skills. Studying Art at school helped me to understand better how to express myself. I tried variety of subjects at school like Computer Graphic, Art History and Animation, although; painting is the most enjoyable major that I chose for my life. I attended to various workshops and painting courses in Iran and then continued them in Spain and Italy as well. Among several painting techniques, I focused strongly on Colour Pencil, Pastel and Water Colour and I created my best artistic pieces with these techniques. During this time, I took part in some solo and joint expositions with my painting group (Silent Colour) to represent my art. My art does speak from my real life, my country, my people, my culture and history that I want to share with the rest of the world."
